StaircaseStaircase to an Unknown Light

A friend of my wife's was a teacher at the Marymount School of New York on 5th Avenue across from the Metropolitan Museum.
It was St. Patrick’s Day and we were invited to the school to view the parade from the second story balcony. Needless to say, it was very festive both on the street and inside where we were treated to any number of delicious hors d’oeuvres and plenty of libations, green and otherwise.

During a lull in the parade, my curiosity got the better of me so I wondered around the second floor, my camera and tripod in hand. We had taken the elevator when we arrived so I didn’t notice the staircase until I went on my sojourn. I was instantly struck by the simplicity and sheer elegance of the staircase.

The light, the shadows, and the light cast on the wall from the upper floor all came together to produce this photograph.
